ROUTE 92 WIDENING PROJECT
City of Half Moon Bay
Highway 92 crosses two main arterials at the entrance to Half Moon Bay—Main Street and Highway 1. This project will reconfigure these busy intersections to relieve traffic congestion and improve safety.
At the intersection with Main Street, Highway 92 will be widened
from two to four lanes. A second right-turn lane for traffic turning onto Main Street will be added to eastbound Highway 92. A new right-turn lane will be added to westbound Highway 92 for traffic turning onto North Main Street. A second left-turn lane will be added to Highway 1 for traffic turning onto Highway 92. In addition, bike lanes and sidewalks will be added to Main Street.
The City of Half Moon Bay is the project sponsor. Funding for the $21.8 million project comes from a combination of sources, with the San Mateo County Transportation Authority providing $12.6 million and the City of Half Moon Bay contributing $3.4 million. The project is scheduled for completion in fall 2008.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Progress continues to be more and more visible on the project with work recently completed including portions of new curb, gutter, and sidewalk on the east side of North Main Street and at the Route 92/Main Street intersection; setting of new traffic signal poles; completion of various drainage systems; the demolition of the Olympian station; and the paving of future lanes on eastbound Route 92. This work in particular has allowed the shifting of traffic to allow construction to commence on the widening of westbound Route 92. Widening work includes the construction of a major retaining wall opposite the community park parcel near Spanish Town, construction a smaller wall adjacent to the cemetery, and the extension of sidewalk on westbound Route 92 to the Hilltop Mobile Home Park. Work is also starting on the widening of Main Street between Route 92 and Stone Pine Road. Please note all businesses remain open through construction.
Utility companies have begun pulling and splicing new cables into the completed joint trench throughout the project limits. In the near future, affected properties will be converted from aerial to underground services. Property owners will be contacted by both the City’s contractor and utility companies in advance of the brief interruptions of service required for these conversions.
Please be aware of shifting pedestrian access and work zones on Main Street, Route 1 and Route 92 as well as sporadic night work and associated lane closures.
